My Very Own Pickin' Experience

I have only recently been hearing about a show on the history channel
called American Pickers, Antique Archaeology. It's the journey of two
guys who make their living perusing their passion, picking through old
junk. Then selling it. For profit.

Old barns, outbuildings, attics, basements, nothing is off limits when they
are on the hunt! I happened to catch an American Pickers marathon on
Sunday and I was hooked. Even though the stuff the guys tend to buy
isn't what I would be interested in, it was so much fun to take the tour
with these guys into places that haven't been disturbed for years.

Believe it or not, while the ladies and I were out on a garage sale sojourn
this weekend, lookin' for goodies for our new "booth" at an antique shop,
we stumbled upon our own mini-picker moment. There was a little old
man who opens up his huge shop, caulk full of "junk". We did some picking
around and here is a bit of what we found...

What did we come away with you ask?

4 baby planters
1 candle stick
1 wood crate
2 picture frames
1 Christmas theme gravy boat
2 small angel figurines
1 small terracotta pot covered in roses
1 tin lampshade
1 old colander ( I think)
1 old bucket
2 turkey candle holders
1 angel figurine
2 white painted boards
1 mirror frame from a dresser w/o the mirror
1 old window
dominoes
1 small planter
12 pickets from a fence

grand total $23

I think we did pretty well. We sorta drove away from there
feeling guilty, like we took advantage of the sweet old guy, but
he set the prices, so I guess he was alright with it. We hope to
go back next time he's open for business. I'm thinking maybe
I ought to get my tetanus shot updated first. If I have any plans
to become a serious picker that is.

What fun! Love those frames! Many, many, many years ago I went one time with my mom and stepdad to the dumps, yep, the dumps. My mom would hunt for vintage tin cans and bottles . . . oh how I wish I had held on to those! I had fun but boy did I need a shower when I got home!

Wow!! So many goodies! What fun for you!! My favorites would be the white frames, dominoes and blue ceramic baby shoe.

By the way, what you called turkey candleholders - I'm pretty sure they are actually doves - I used to have some just like them...

Good Morning Sares Sweetie...
I so love your new header. It is so beautiful, and so YOU. Free spirited.

I adore all your treasures. What a find you came across. I would definitely be watching for his shop to open each time. What a beautiful bounty. I love the aged frames and that window, oh I have dreamed of one of those. Beautiful for sure.

What information can you give me on this show? I have not seen it of yet, and know I would love it.

Have a beautiful day Ms Sares. Please know that you are so loved. Country hugs...Sherry

Oh, Sares ~ That is such fun! I love the 'hunt' & 'pickin' ... great treasures. American Picker show is ok but sometimes they get pretty boring ... get to see some great sights, tho.

How is the shop coming along? I know you are having fun ...

Happy St Patrick's Day
Have a lovely weekend.

Ha...I love it...yes, get all your equipment including your shots. You girls need to invest in wheelbarrows, dump trucks, old trucks, wagons and airplanes to haul the goodies home! A heaping load of good profit can be made in the junk business for sure!

Hi, Sares!

That's fun to see what you found! I can't believe all of your loot. Neat!

Will miss you tomorrow on Pink Saturday. I'm going to be gone the next two Saturdays to get ready for Claudie's visit. Maybe we'll have some fun things to report on future Pink Saturdays... there will be at least four Pinkies present. LOL! Wish you and so many other pink friends could be with us. We'll raise a cup of cheer to you! :-)

XO,

Sheila
