A Rose By Another Name Party!!!

Grandma

What's in a name? that which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet...

WELCOME! Please come in so I can share with you the history

of a little name called SARES...

SARES is a nickname created and given to me by my Grandma. For those
of you that
have been puzzled as to how to pronounce it, just rhyme it
with the any of
the following...
cares
pears
lairs
fairs
wears
hairs
SARES

you get the idea!

My beautiful Grandma with a baby Cousin and my little Sister

When I was in high school, I used to spend one or two weekends a
month with my Grandparents. I'd do housework for her and earn
some spending money. On one such occa
sion, we were watching TV and
a movie came on. It was a movie about a woman that lived a pioneer
life, in a little cabin and her last name happened to be Sayerwood. She told
me this is where she derived the name S
ARES. This is where is gets
a little murky for me. I don't know WHY exactly, I think she said
because the SARE part rhym
es with my first name.

Nevertheless, the name stuck and occasionally that's what my
Dad's side of the family would call me. Sometimes there would be a "Bop"
or a "Bopper" attached making it SARES A Bop. Silly right?! But I've
come to discover that sometimes the silly things created with family are
the ones that hold the most sentimental value and lasting memories.

It wasn't used much, but I always liked being called SARES and
it always gave me a warm feeling when I heard it. It's taken on
special significance since my Grandma has since passed away.
When I took my blog public, I didn't want to use my first name,
so I decided to go with SARES and I can't tell you all how it does
my heart good to see this name in print and be called SARES by
so many new blogging friends
. It was the perfect choice for me.

Twins CowgirlJLynn and Dusty Devoe

Now, a little inside history on the name of my blog. When I began, my blog
was just a private affair for family and a place for me to play and create. I
debated the name for weeks before I even created the blog and finally
landed on Loveleigh Treasures. The spelling in the LoveLEIGH is taken
from my middle name, which is Leigh. I DO know how to spell the real
word correctly peeps, in case you were suspicious!

My middle name comes to me from my Auntie. My Mom is a twin and
her twin sister's middle name is Lee. My Mom changed up the spelling
though, she liked the Leigh spelling better and thought it was more
feminine. She sometimes has grand ideas, but I've always rather liked it!

That about sums it all up for me, I hope I didn't bore you all too
much with fam
ily folklore! I'll also announce the winners of the
my Movie Giveaway on Friday. Good luck to everyone!

I'd like to thank you all for joining me and I can't wait to hear
your stories. I'm also posting a bit earlier than I intended, but a wind-
storm is on the way and in case of a power outage I wanted to make
sure it got posted first. Please add your name to McLinky and
have a fantastic time at the party!

And now we all KNOW the rest of the story!

My Grandma's name on her birth certificate was different that the name she was called. Her entire life she went by the name BERTIE. She passed away last November 29th at almost 92. When she was 60 she sent off for her original birth certificate and found out her REAL NAME was Elizabeth. She was stunned. Everyone was. Years later ALL her great grandchildren started calling her Birdie Gramma (instead of Bertie) and she said she FINALLY loved the name because she loved Red Birds.

xoSweet Story!

Oh Sares what a glorious name you have, and I love the story behind it, I will most definately contiue to call you Sares from now on, me and my mom pronounce the name differently however she was right with the pronunciation lol, as usual. I love it though.

My Name Heidi Ann I was named after the story Heidi my mom Sherry Country Wings in Phoenix, loved the name Heidi, and always wanted a daughter named Heidi. Ann my middle name came from my Granny her middle name is Ann and I was named after her. I have her picture up in my family photo part of the blog there is a button. I was able to sit on her lap when I visited just like when I was a little girl. I used to not like my name as a child but as I got older I realized this was my name so I stuck with it. I love your nickname and the meaning behind it what a lovely story. Your never boring my dear. I enjoy visiting with you every day.

Sares~ I had been very curious about the pronunciation of your name, cause it's similar to mine.

I've had my nickname "Tinker" (after the Disney fairy) for 53 years! My family still calls me by it. So, like you, it's such an endearment for me.
I was a preemie and my siblings insisted I needed a nickname. Their first choice was pillow cause I was tiny enough to fit on a small throw pillow, but mom in her wisdom suggested tiny Tinker like the fairy. They agreed and the rest is history...as they say.

Thank you for sharing the sweet history of your names.

Sweet wishes,
Sara

I liked hearing your story of how you acquired your nickname. I hadn't known the movie Grandma used as an inspiration.

My inspiring nickname, Bopper, was lovingly coined by my uncles when I was itty bitty. I googled the name and learned this: The term teenybopper was invented by marketing professionals and psychologists, later becoming a subculture of its own. The term describes a young teenager, particularly a girl, who follows adolescent trends in music, fashion and culture. The term was introduced in the 1950s to refer to teenagers who liked pop music and/or rock and roll. "Teenybopper" became widely used again in the late 1960s and 1970s, following an increase in the marketing of pop music, teen idols and fashions aimed specifically at younger girls, down to 15 years .

I do really like music and always had pop star posters on my bedroom walls as a child...so I guess you could say I grew into the name!!

What fun new decor for you post! I love the story of your nickname, I didn't even know how you got it (not the specifics, anyway.) Sayerwood is a great last name!
I have no idea how I got my name, except I know my mom and dad wanted to name me Sidney, I think Angel and Christy were also on the table!
As far as PONY GIRL, I also wanted to remain anonymous so I just picked something fun, and it worked because of all of us cousins calling ourselves the pony cousins! ;)

Oh Sares
Boaring this was not! What a beautiful story of your grandma and your nickname, and your middle name...and now I know how to prononce it.
This was such a great idea,I am sorry I could not link up until now...work.
I am going to check out your moms blog too.
PS; My daughters blog is named after her nickname "Shmooygirl" I and her dad came up with her nickname in a cute way too, that we all still call her.Indeed these "small" things of life become the most sentimental to us.
Blessings
