I have some Annie Sloan "Scandinavian Pink" Chalk Paint on it's way to me. Just waiting for the UPS Truck to bring it by. I ordered 4 other colors I have never used as well. It will be just like Christmas opening up that box when it comes!

A Blingin' Bracelet

I got a new treasure in the mail recently. A special order from my Cousin Michelle at Rockin' Heart Jewelry. I saw a cuff bracelet like this on her Facebook page and fell in love. So, of course I had to have one! She's got lots of new items listed, all for a great price too so if you love jewelry like I do, go and visit her Etsy shop and do some browsing. She doesn't charge for that and it's half the fun!

BTW~I recently remodeled my blog. I went from 2 columns to 3 and widened the entire thing. Blogger Template Designer is letting you really widen your blog now. I went from 1000 to 1200. I also added a new header. All the pictures are from Pinterest. I couldn't find the original sources for them. I use pictures from Pinterest/Google images most of the time for my headers because the pictures are so much better than mine! I never claim them as my own and if I ever inadvertently use one of yours and you wish to be given photo credit or for me to remove it, I absolutely will. Until then, I thank all the fabulous picture takers out there who add such beauty to the world and to my blog!

Treasures For All That Jazz

I worked all day on pretties for Jazz.

I haven't really worked on anything since November, to prepare for Christmas.
It felt good to work on some projects again.

However what I'm REALLY itching to do is paint some furniture. I haven't been able to find anything to work on. I almost hand my mitts on some last weekend and it turned into a bit of a mess. I'll fill you in on the details soon.

So for now, I trudge onward and upward, working on the littlest of pretties.

But man I want some furniture! Should a asked Santa to hook me up!

Happy Pink Saturday! Is everybody ready for Christmas? I think I am. There's still a few last minute cookies to bake and presents to wrap but nothing too trying. I have a treat for you today. last weekend I took a trip to Portland Oregon with my Mom and Aunt to meet up with my Sister and our first stop was Monticello Antique Marketplace. We wanted to check out their Christmas Show and we got an eyeful! Enjoy the tour!

More Holiday at All That Jazz

The holiday season is rolling on...through Black Friday, Plaid Friday, Small Business Saturday etc.

Very soon every shopping day leading up to Christmas will have a name!

I didn't buy anything over the weekend but 2 $5 Christmas CD's and a cell phone because I had to switch plans. The phone doesn't really count since it's a NECESSITY. That's what I'm thinkin' anyway. Gotta keep that phone handy for customers who want a lower price on the spot. I had one last week. I accidentally left a Goodwill sticker on the back. OOPS. Not the first time that's happened but I usually catch them. I swear they put at least 3 on everything. So this lady sees the sticker and wants the item, a framed chicken print, but she wants it for the price I paid for it. NO WAY. I think she didn't take the time to realize I had to pay tax, gas to get there, my time to do the shopping, paint and labor costs because I painted the frame 3 times and I have to take pay a commission on everything I sell. I offered her $3 off the price I had on it, but when I went in a few days later she didn't buy it. It's not like I was making bank off the picture. I probably would have cleared about 2-3 dollars on it. Some people, jeesh.

The reindeer are all lining up. I can never remember all their names. Can you? I always forget Dancer.

I saw this idea on Pinterest and thought it was really cute. Trees in a jar. Toss in some Epsom salts and you have winter in a glass. It smells divine too, the salts are eucalyptus scented.

Cute right. I almost kept this for myself.

No furniture sales recently I'm afraid, but lots of smaller items flying out the door.

Santa is hiding out in another part of the shop, Abundance Vintage. Watching over all...making his list of naughty and nice.

snow I'm craving some serious snow. We only got a sprinkling last year.

I'm hoping to get the Christmas stuff up this week, work on some small things for Jazz and do a lot of walking since we are expecting some nice weather after a week of icky rain. Let's just say a few pounds or 10, have been added since last year and I want to make them go away.

Happy PINK Saturday!

I watched the movie "The Patriot" last night and drew inspiration for my pink post from the movie. They had some amazing clothes for the era. The craftsmanship was just beautiful. I am guessing if you had the money to pay for it! Most people probably wore much simpler clothes without the silk fabrics and embroidery.

Isn't this beautiful. I think you could wear this today paired with a pair of jeans and cowboy boots.

I am amazed at how WHITE the whites are. Really? How did everyone stay so clean back then? I think a lot of it may be the magic of Hollywood. I bet they didn't really stay so pristine day in and day out, even if you had servants and lived in the city.

This dress dates about 100 years later but I thought it was stunning.

This one is from the 1920's. I love the pop of pink flowers on the side and the fabric looks gorgeous. I am sure the ladies and gentlemen from the 1770's and 1880's would have been SHOCKED!

Christmas seems to be springing up all over and Halloween is barely past. Last weekend I tuned in to the Hallmark Channel and they were running a marathon of Christmas related movies. The stores are packing their shelves with Christmas paraphernalia, and Christmas commercials are popping into my regular scheduled programming.

I've decided just to go with it.

We already decorated All That Jazz (previous post), the Halloween/Fall stuff is put away, I'm scanning Pinterest for pretty pictures of Christmas decorations and YES, I've already broken out the Christmas music. It makes for good walking music. What can I say, it's my favorite time of year.

I'm hoppin' on the Christmas train, CHOO CHOO!!!

I will, however wait until after thanksgiving to break out my own xmas decor. Maybe.

All That Jazz~All Decked Out For Christmas

It took 3 of us nearly 4 hours but All That Jazz is all ready for the Christmas rush! Our shop, Abundance Vintage is having a Holiday Open House this weekend.

It took me 2 weeks of mad rushing to get everything ready but it's a relief that it's done and I won't have to worry about it until it's time to take it down, other than filling in when things sell.

I have finally gotten most of my Pinterest account transferred so SHOULD be getting my blogging mojo back! Have a wonderful November day!

October's Come and GONE...

Can you believe we are already into November. Where did October go? It's officially been 3 weeks since I've even done a post. I don't think I've ever done that unless I was taking a break. I wasn't really taking an official break this time, just spending my computer time doing other things.

Like re-pinning the 5,000+ pins I had in my Pinterest account because I went to login one day couldn't access my account. It said there was no Pinterest account associated with my Facebook account. Say WHAT? Needless to say I was mad. I had to open a whole new account and am STILL working on transferring my pins. I guess that's what I get for having so many pictures pinned. Not to mention the fact that I keep finding new things I HAVE to pin. It's a bad bad habit. But I have some great stuff! I'll share my link when I get it all transferred.

Then I had the Man Cub and his big Sister for 2 weeks while my Sister was out of town for job training. Lots of early morning bus trips in the chilly weather that are no fun. Thankfully the rain has been holding off for the most part.

This little one has her 15th birthday tomorrow. She gave us a scare a couple days ago. I knew she wasn't feeling well, she felt like she had a fever, was shaking and wouldn't eat. She also threw up a couple times. She has a gall stone that occasionally gives her a tummy ache but the fever had me concerned. Her blood work came back today and it appears she has some sort of infection, so she's on antibiotics. She's feeling better. However at 15, she is really beginning to show her age. I can see a big difference the last few months, especially in her walking. Poor baby has arthritis in her hips. I dread the day we lose her, it's been the longest I've ever had a pet and I've been the more attached to her than any other.

Then, there's Jazz. It keeps on ticking, even w/o my other 2 partners. It seems like we've barely begun Fall and I am already in a frenzy getting ready for Christmas. We'll be decorating soon in order to get those early holiday shoppers!

My Big Sis is also to blame for my lack of blogging, because a lot of my computer time is also spent playing a card game online we used to play as teenagers. We used to have tournaments with our cousins. It's called Nerts. Ever played it? I recently found out you could play online and so I do. Frequently.

I promise I'll get back in the blogging groove, it's always so much fun to read what others are doing for the holidays. I hope you have a great weekend, I am off to watch Vampire Diaries.

The Pumpkin Patch

Took a couple trips to the patch last weekend.

First I went with my Mom and my big Sister, who popped in from out of town unexpectedly! What a nice surprise that was. My Sister wanted to hit the patch because she lives in the city and figured it would be cheaper than buying them in town. I was shocked at how cheap they actually were. She was right.

The second trip was with the Man Cub. He found out we went and was slightly irritated we didn't take him.

So off we headed down the road again. He went on the hunt for the perfect pumpkin. But it had to be big. The biggest. We've been reading a book every night called The Bumpy Little Pumpkin and it's a favorite so I thought he might chose a small one. Nope. He wanted the biggest one in the patch.

He found it! I made his Nanette pack it to the wagon because it was heavy. I'm nice that way.

Then we went in search of the animals.

Some were small.

Some were big.

Tractor rides! Don't worry, it didn't move, it was strategically placed there for photo ops. I wasn't brave enough to let him sit on one of the big old tractors.

Back in the pumpkin shed, they had great displays.

Now we just have to carve the pumpkin. I'm hoping his Mommy will take over that chore because I don't like doing it. I hope you're all having a great Fall. I am sad to say the weather her has been gloomy and rainy. Occasionally the sun will come out and all is right with the world!

A Harvest Weekend

Last weekend All That Jazz joined other vendors from our shop, Abundance Vintage, in a space at a local event called The Country Chicks. They were having their annual Fall Harvest event and we were invited to join in the fun! This is Jazz's section in our shops 12 by 12 space. We were the first in so got to pick our placement in our spot!

Overall we did sell some things and it was worth the effort but we didn't sell as much as I thought we would have. I think as you look at the pictures to follow, you will get an idea why. Our stuff tends to be more French Country/Shabby Chic and this show is known for a more Primitive style. I think people that shop here are sort of still stuck in that decorating mode. Lots of black and red. I tend to like lighter colors.

I did sell this bookcase. I don't think I showed you. It was a Goodwill find. It started out with your usual ugly brown stain and had a hole in the back, but it had dainty lines and cute feet! It was a lot of work though. I don't think I'll be doing another bookcase soon. They have too many sides! I used a lot of my Chalk Paint on it too. Then I added clear and dark wax. I loved the way the dark wax made it look grungy!

This stuff all belongs to the Country Chicks, the hostesses. She said she uses a lot of spray paint!

I loved this piece, it didn't sell but I'm sure it will soon.

This space was a favorite, it was styled really neat and when we stopped by 2 days later it had sold a lot of things. I also wondered if we didn't sell so much because we were at the end of the line in the barn, not outside in the tents where people shopped first. However, since it rained on Saturday I was thankful for the barn.

I thought this was clever!

All in all it was a good weekend. It took a lot of work to get ready for it but since I had a lot of merchandise left over I don't have to worry so much about keeping the booth stocked this month. I have to admit, it's more fun to be a shopper than a vendor, all the fun and none of the hassle!

Furniture Makeovers for Jazz

I recently purchased this pretty little lady. She had great lines but needed a paint job.

Out came the Antibes Green, ASP Chalk Paint, my new favorite color these days. My can is almost empty I've been using it so much.

When you add the clear and then the dark wax, the paint just pops and makes a piece glow with antique goodness. Even if it's not an antique.

Isn't this yummy. It's currently at the shop, front and center at Jazz.

Nightstand snagged at a garage sale.

After some Chalk Paint, Old White and then Duck Egg Blue followed by clear and dark wax.

Two fun vintage chairs. The one on the left is really old. Under that material was the original leather seat in great condition.

After. More green. I'm channeling Kermit, what can I say.

The twins and I took the chairs and table up a week and a half ago, moved things around and got ready for Fall. However this table sold the following week so the green desk is now in it's place. I did take pictures of the Fall redecoration and will show you in the next post!

September has been just crazy, things flying out of the shop left and right. I think it's one of the best months we've ever had. Our shop has a new owner and is now called Abundance Vintage. There have been quite a few vendor changes and I am loving the new look and feel the shop has.

Man Cub Love

Man Cub had a big Summer with one major accomplishment.

He learned to ride a bike.

The training wheels came off, a few test runs in the house so he was bouncing off carpet instead of pavement and voila'! After 2 weeks he was flying around on that puppy. Not to say that there weren't some scraped knees but I was amazed how fast he picked it up. Maybe because his sister didn't learn until she was 8. Yep, she's not an outdoorsey sort of gal. Now he thinks he can do tricks. Stinker.

And this week he reached another milestone. Preschool. He was quite brave about the whole thing, no tears when Mommy dropped him off and he gets to ride the bus now. It was a big deal because he's never been in daycare, just home all day with Mommy or Auntie but he did just great and I think the social interaction will be really good for him. However I think he's already learned it's not so fun to get up early each morning and get ready to head out to school, instead of watching cartoons. After only 3 days he's picked up on that. Yep, he's a fast learner.

I wasn't sure I was ready to let him go, much as he drives me crazy sometimes! But he's having fun and I'm sure once I get into the routine I will enjoy having the mornings Man Cub free.

Goodbye Summer, Hello Fall...

Fall is in the air! My favorite season, well EARLY Fall is my favorite. I could pass on the November part. It's rather dreary in these parts in November.

But I love the falling leaves. Homemade applesauce and apple pies.

Pumpkins galore, corn stalks and mums all around.

The warm colors you can melt into...

and cozy up with a warm blanket. Pull out the scarves and the comfy boots.

My favorite part, the crisp days and the smells. Divine. Autumn.

Updates and Makeovers

I'm sorry to say, I haven't been in a blogging mood lately. I think that happens to me at the end of every Summer. I've been busy with lots of Jazz "hoopla". First, we helped my cousin Michelle pack up her stuff from Jazz and sadly said goodbye to her. It was a sorrowful parting of the ways and she will be missed. Now I have to figure out a way to fill the whole space myself AND pay the full space rent! Scary but exciting as well.

Michelle has begun a new journey making jewelery. She made both necklaces we had on in the pictures and so far is making big bucks off her family! She's doing pretty darn well selling to other customers non-related as well. I promise to do a post soon and show more of her fabulous work.

So once I had the run of the whole space, I hauled in these pretties.

Then a few days later, this butcher block island sold. So I had to take something else in.

Thankfully I had another piece waiting. Not this piece. I just found this picture and got the inspiration to "dirty up" a dresser I had already painted white, because I thought it was a bit boring.

I came up with this.

Now the paint on this dresser was regular latex satin. I added a coat of my Annie Sloan clear wax and then dark wax. Learning curve~satin paint doesn't absorb the wax like the AS Chalk Paint. I figured it wouldn't. When I buffed most of the "dirt" the dark wax rubbed off and it didn't end up looking as dirty as I would have liked. Next time I'm going to get some flat white and see how that works.

Someone must have thought it was dirty enough though because I just got the word tonight that it sold today. Two days after I took it in. I also sold an ottoman I covered in a burlap sack that turned out really cool. I'm so mad I didn't get a picture! It was a last minute decision to take it in and it sold the next day. I hate it when I do that. Now I have to scramble to get something else in the dresser's place.

Good thing I found THIS over the weekend. Cute right. She already has her new paint job, I just need to add the wax. Think GREEN. Yes, my newest obsession is ASCP Antibes Green.

I think it's gonna be a hard piece to part with.

Got these two little beauties this weekend too. Makeovers already in progress.

And these two chairs. Think GREEN again. I know, I'm bad. If people hate the color I might be in trouble but so far I've been told I'm getting good feedback on it.

I didn't buy the kid. He just snuck into my shot AGAIN. And stole my coffee in the process. He says mine is better than his Mommy's. That's because Auntie likes hers SWEET. And decaffeinated or I would have been in for a nightmare of an afternoon. He sucked down the last inch of my coffee before I could finish my pictures. Little monster.

So I will be spending the week painting and waxing. In between 90 degree weather, which I am not complaining about since we have had the coolest Summer I ever remember having, seriously, I think we only had a few days above 80 degrees. I know most of you might like the cooler temps but when you live with rain and clouds 9 months of the year, you need all the hot Summer days you can get to soak up some vitamin D to last you though the rest of the year!

BTW~ I finally joined the Facebook craze and have created a page for All That Jazz. I have been trying to add updates to it as things go into the shop. Another reason I haven't been blogging. This Facebook thing is a bit complicated. If you check it out, please feel free to LIKE the page so you can get updates on your wall. Don't you just love modern technology.

Living The Dream

While perusing the internet the other night, I came across Suzanne Somers and Alan Hamel's Palm Springs home. I am in love. Suzanne's decorating style is so perfectly in sync with what I would love in a home. I am assuming it's mostly Suzanne's style since it leans towards the feminine side. Do you want a tour? I knew you did!

Spetacular! Love the pink. Love the green. Love the soft squishy bedding. Love the animal prints mixed throughout. Love the white panels. Love all the chandeliers. Love the stone floors. Love the slipcovers. Love the mirrors. Love the candles. Love the fresh flowers everywhere.

I could move right in and stay forever.

New BLING!

I recently splurged and bought myself some new necklaces. I place the blame for this squarely on shoulders of a fun little site you might have heard of called Pinterest. While perusing the latest "pins" I came across a western style belt from Sheplers. I've been needing a good leather belt for a while and was curious, so I followed the link to their sight and it was all over from there.

Three necklace and one belt later I found myself in bling bliss. I originally had the belt and turquoise necklace picked out, but if you ordered past a certain price range they paid the shipping. So I HAD to order two more, right?!

Turns out this red one is my favorite on. Please disregard the black tank that seemed to pick up every piece of lint known to man. Funny, they all have crosses as a theme. Even the belt I bought has a cross on it.

Man it smells yummy too, like a new car with leather seats!

This isn't the end of my latest obsession either. I have another one being made very soon by my super talented cousin Michelle. That one will be PINK! I promise to show you when it's done and share her link so you can buy your own if you're interested. Until then, have a fabulous day!

A Little Bit of All That Jazz~Latest Projects

I've been working like a busy beaver stockpiling stuff to take to Jazz. I've got a new sign all ready to hang. The last two signs with our name I made sold. One was a burlap runner and the other a black board with silver glitter letters. I think this one might stick around longer since I added our space #17 to it.

A burlap covered canvas. I got this idea when I saw old burlap bags framed and hung on a wall. This is the cheaper version!

I though they turned out rather well. I hope they sell because I stocked up on canvases because there was a sale this week. I want to try some stripes down the side next time, like you see on the old french linens. If they don't sell I may have to take up painting.

Two picture frames from Goodwill got a makoever.

Flour sack towels. I had a lot of fun making these.

I ran out and bought 6 more to make with different images.

All this is ready to go to Jazz, plus 2 boxes of goodies I've got all priced and a bunch more I have YET to price. I just need to coordinate help getting it all up there when our schedules match up. I have yet to figure out how to move the furniture all by myself!

August at All That Jazz

I took a couple new pieces into the space last weekend!

This nightstand/dresser was a piece my Mom had and it got a makeover with AS Chalk Paint in the Duck Egg Blue color. It's a pretty little piece with a lot of character.

The little round end table on the right is the second piece I took in. I forgot to get a good picture. I hate it when that happens! It was originally and ugly shade of green with brown undertones. I painted it the same color as the previous piece, the Duck Egg Blue, then stenciled a fleur de lis pattern on all 3 shelves. It really made the piece pop and it looks oh so much better.

There are more changes than just the new furniture. My Nana has left Jazz. She wasn't making enough sales to make it worth keeping her spot. Michelle has also "officially" left but her stuff remains behind. A hectic Summer has prevented her from packing it all up but we're thinking by the end of the month she'll be able to get it all boxed up. Then I'm REALLY on my own. The twins (my Mom and Michelle's Mom) will still be my partners but truth be told I do 95% of the work. It's basically MY addiction. I just drag them along for the ride most of the time!

Also on the new changes front, the shop we have All That Jazz in has sold. The owners have moved on to a new opportunity within the space of a month and a half and we now have a new owner. Our previous owners will be greatly missed, they are wonderful people and were a tremendous help to us as new vendors but I am also excited about the new direction I think our shop may be taking!

I'll keep you updated. I have new stuff stacked up in the shed at home and have been working on some new projects. I've just been waiting for Michelle's things to fly the coop to make room. I think September will be a great time to make a fresh start. Happy Sunday and have a wonderful week!

Makeovers and a Man Cub

Hi Peeps! I hope you all had a great weekend. I had a family reunion on Saturday. We had perfect weather and it is always great to see everyone. The only downside is I missed The Barn House Flea Market and A Vintage Gathering which I was really excited about attending this year but unfortunately the dates clashed.

So, I've been surfing the blogs to find pictures of what I missed! Maybe it's better not to know about all that chippy rusty vintage goodness!

Any-hoo, back to the BUSINESS at hand, the makeovers! I got this little dresser at a garage sale recently and I gave her a facelift.

Here she is. First I had to give it a good scrubbing. The rubber gloves and BLEACH kind of scrubbing. Then I painted the drawer fronts our signature Jamaican Aqua and sanded the edges. I was planning to buy some new knobs but I found these from a previous project and thought they fit the bill. I left the top and sides the original shabby HEAVILY distressed white because it would have been a nightmare to work with and I don't know if it's lead paint or just enamel.

At the last minute I decided to add a bird stencil. What do you think?

Yeah or nay? I just thought it added an extra something but I know stenciling isn't for everyone. Most of the time I'm not a fan but there are some great stencils out there these days.

Now back to the before, can you catch a glimpse of that grungy white framed old window on the left...

Weekend Tailgate Shopping

My Mom and I went to a Summer Sale and Tailgate Party last weekend at the Country Chicks. This is an event that's held 3-4 times a year. Michelle and I were approached by one of the ladies who runs the sales to join them sometime. She really liked our space and thought our style would sell very well amongst all her other vendors. It is something for us to definitely consider in the future.

There was a great variety of goodies to be had, most at really decent prices too.

But I only came home with this wood caddy. I think I'm going to put tools and paint supplies in it. I may have to go on the hunt for some blue Mason jars to poke things in.

I also hit a few garage sales of course and here's my loot. I think these were some of the best bargains I've found in a long time. Let's just say the $ I spent was in the single digits. Except for the wood caddy, that was a wee bit more. Everything needs a makeover though. Bring on the paint.

There were plenty of treasures to be had but I only bought an old white platter and a small crock.

Then there was this. A fellow blogger was in town and spotted this pretty chair in a booth up the street from Jazz and posted on her blog Delusions of Grandeur that it would be perfect for someone like little old me to buy, paint and resell for a good profit. She was half right.

About the buying and painting part. She now sits in my bedroom and will not be sold! At least not anytime soon. I just LOVE this chair! It has a few tiny spots on the upholstery I haven't tried to scrub out yet and I will add some paint to the wood since it has some dings. I'm thinking gray or my favorite ASCP, Louis Blue. Maybe I'll win that giveaway and I can stock up on my supply. Overall though the chair is in great condition and was a score at the price I got her for.

Antique Festival~The Jazz Junk

Yep, we had a big ole lovely pile of J*U*N*K for the antique fest.

See all this, it belongs to All That Jazz. I can't believe we had that much cr*p to set out. None of the other vendors were interested in putting things on the sidewalk. Go figure. When we set up I was worried we were taking up too much room but it turned out it wasn't an issue. It worked out great for us!

That little white desk was one of the first things to sell from the sidewalk.

It was bought for a little 7 year old girl.

Michelle brought a lot of really neat "vintage" rusty iron pieces from the ranch.

We had rust in abundance but didn't seem to have many buyers interested in purchasing said rust.

I didn't sell a single buoy. I had to haul half of them back home.

I may have to chuck them in the ocean.

Michelle brought these from the ranch too. Aren't they cool! She sold one!

I sold these two end tables about a half an hour before I went to move the stuff indoors. Hallelujah!!! I was so worried I was going to have to haul these home and store them again because there is no room in the booth at the moment. Crisis averted. The tall green table at the far right (with the basket on it) sold the first night along with...

FIFI

Our mannequin mascot we had when we first started All That Jazz. She'd been floating around a while and I decided it was time for her to find a new home.

We had a pretty good weekend although the crowds were a lot smaller this year than last year. I'm not sure if it's due to the economy or the fact that there was a bigger antique show an hour and a half south of us.

It was still worth the effort and I had fun with Michelle. This will be our last "Jazz" event together since she's bailing on me at the end of the month. She's moved on to greener pastures! Literally. There are some other changes just around the bend for our Jazz booth soon. I'll share when I can.

Pink Saturday

I think I've found some inspiration for my dream "work" space. I'm sure off to the right hand side there, out of sight is plenty of room to paint all that furniture I've been working on for All That Jazz. A dry room with a comfortable temperature, good lighting and no wind blowing things into my wet paint. Yep. A dream space.

I just love the mix of the white woodwork and gray walls with color thrown in. As much as I love looking at photos of beautiful rooms decorated in creams and whites, I need to LIVE in color. The green stool, floral accents and fresh flowers add the perfect splashes of color. This gorgeous room speaks my name. Saaaaarresssss...Saaaaaaarrrresss...

A Book Review for a Fellow Blogger, C JoyBell C.

I've been blogging for a couple of years now with a very special woman named C. JoyBell C. Or as I like to call her, Bells. I came to know Bells through her beautiful and inspiring writings and poetry she shares on her blog, Writings...by C. JoyBell C.

Poetry is such a personal thing to the writer and yet Bells poems never fail to illicit some meaningful response from me. I always find something on an emotional level to connect with, sometimes things I didn't even know were there. She has an astounding way of putting things in a new light and turning the ordinary into extraordinary.

I think that must be the true mark of a great poet, the ability to make the reader FEEL. Bells does that in abundance, each and every time.

She recently published her first book of poetry, 'The Sun Is Snowing' and then took on the task of writing her first Novella. My curiosity was immediately piqued. What kind of story would Bells tell? Would I hear the same voice in her Novella I know from her poems?

I ordered the book online and within days, 'Saint Paul Trois Chateaux: 1948' was at my door. I must admit I was a bit intimidated by the name to begin with. After all I am a complete French illiterate. I needn't have worried.

The story Bells weaves is about a few distinct characters. How one night can alter a persons life forever. How another night many years later can do the exact same thing, depending on words spoken and words left unspoken.

When I opened 'Saint Paul Trois Chateaux: 1948', I was immediately transported to an intimate setting where you can feel the tension in the air. I felt like an interloper listening in on a private conversation. A conversation with so much left unsaid, two people trying to keep things lighthearted all the while struggling with themselves to speak the words they REALLY want to say. How many of us have been there?

Bells hints at secrets long buried, letting you follow them into the night to see who keeps their secrets hidden, who tells half truths and who is brave enough to bare it all. She makes you want to fly to the end and see how it all turns out. I love it when a book holds that kind of suspense and you have to force yourself to slow down and let the story unfold itself!

'Saint Paul Trois Chateaux: 1948' did not disappoint, but then I knew it wouldn't. It is a true testament to the beauty and raw emotion that Bells shares with us so freely. While her book differs from her poetry, I could easily find Bells in her Novella, the passion, the boldness and that gift she has for drawing the reader in and making them connect and draw comparisons to their own lives. It is a glorious gift. Thank you for sharing your talent and your magic with us Bells. It has been a blessing to get to know you through your words.

Congratulations on your magnificent accomplishment!

Antique Fest 2011

My town is having it's annual Antique Fest this weekend. So if you are in the neighborhood, halfway between Portland and Seattle, come on by!

The Downtown area where we have our booth is actually called "antique row" due to all the antique shops in such a small area.

They close down two of the side streets and bring in a variety of vendors.

There are lots of goodies to be found.

Most of the shops offer discounts, including ours, usually anywhere from 10%~40% off.

The shops also put merchandise out on the sidewalks.

This was our small section of sidewalk we were allotted last year. I'm not sure if it will be as fancy this year. I am NOT hauling the rug outside and it was too hard to cover all the small things at night if the wind blew the coverings around. So it will probably be mostly furniture outside.

There will be plenty of good junk for everyone!

There is also a local Farmer's Market on Friday before more vintage/antique vendors set up shop for Saturday. It's lots of fun and this year the weather is promising to be perfect, in the low to mid 70's. However don't quote me on that because this IS Washington!

I'm getting ready to haul more things to the booth to sell for weekend. These table will be headed up there.

All That Jazz Gets A Furniture Infusion

My computer is up and running again, thank the Lord! You don't realize how much you depend on them until they go haywire on you. I still don't know what caused the problem but sheesh, what a pain.

On another positive note, I FINALLY got this passel of furniture hauled to All That Jazz. It was beginning to look like a warehouse around here. I've never had this much to take up at one time. Usually when a piece is done it gets taken up right away but due to scheduling conflicts and just plain laziness on my part, it took forever. I hate hauling furniture around quite frankly.

It took two trips but after some finagling by my Mom and I, we got it all squeezed in.

Oops, we forgot to change that chalkboard! It's been that way since Mother's Day. Not that you shouldn't hug your Mother just because it's no longer Mother's Day!

I gave you a sneak peek at this dresser last week...

Here's what she looked like after the paint, but before the distressing and wax process.

The finished product. I think this is one of my favorite pieces I've done so far.

Then there was this sweet french style nightstand from the Goodwill...

After. You can't really see the true color due to the horrible picture but it's the most beautiful blue. Annie Sloan's Louis Blue. I think it's my favorite color of Chalk Paint.

And then we have this lonely little dresser. Sitting to the side. Watching all the action in the booth and not getting to join the fun. Why, you ask? Because it sold before we even got it in the space. It was just waiting on it's owner to finish shopping and come back and get it.

Computer Drama and Recent Furniture Works In Progress

I've been a bit MIA this week. Monday morning I hit something random and my computer went DOWN. I don't even know the cause. Or exactly what it did. I am up and running again but it's still not 100% and I keep discovering all these little quirks. It's frustrating because it's only a little over a year old. So if I disappear again, that means it really imploded and I am in the midst of a serious hissy fit.

In the meantime I am STILL painting. I picked this sweetie up at the Goodwill a few days ago. It's all painted and distressed and waiting on wax. I am waiting on wax brushes I ordered so I can use said wax. I'm getting a little impatient, it's been a week.

***Update, UPS delivered the wax brushes and more Chalk Paint, Yippee!!!

On the downside, I am now
2 appointments in (both with a fee of course), cash plopped down on an external hardrive to save my pictures and documents...STILL no fixed laptop. Let the hissy fit commence.

I do still have access to another computer but it's not as convenient and I have to share.
I need my baby back, wish me luck!

Now you all know my Chalk Paint came last week. I immediately got down and dirty.

*CAUTION~Long post ahead

Louis Blue and Clear Wax

Here's my first project. A vintage child's dresser I found at Goodwill. I forgot the before picture, but just picture the usual reddish stain with candle wax stuck to the top and in the inside of the drawers and you get the basic idea. I actually primed this piece. Annie Sloan does say you don't have to prime when using this paint but it was a well used little piece with quite a few stains and I had to sand due to the wax. It was quite thick in some places but smelled good when I sanded! I could smell it through my mask. Maybe that means I need a new mask.

I painted with the primer first and let it dry for about an hour. I was indoors so it dried fast. So I was soon able to add the Louis Blue. I think it actually worked quite well and don't think you can tell it's a primer underneath. Primer actually has a flatter texture like the Chalk Paint so I thought they gelled pretty well. I am also trying to save my Old White paint since it's so spendy, I want to use it on "better" pieces. This paint does dry really fast which can be good and bad. I'll explain later. I only added one coat of the blue and let it dry overnight. I distressed the next day but waited to add the wax until I had several pieces to do at once.

I also had to take the time to prime and paint (using regular latex paint) the inside of the drawers, thanks to the candle wax and other mystery stains. It just helped freshen the whole piece. No pricey Chalk Paint on the inside I am afraid!

On to project #2

Aubusson and Clear Wax

Alright. Now I know I told you primer wasn't necessary, however, when working with pressboard, that has some swelling and needs some serious sanding, I decided once again to bring out the sander and primer. I wish all my pieces could be top grade wood with no issues, but alas, it's not to be. So, I sanded, I primed and I added 2 coats of Aubusson Blue. I have read this paint is supposed to stretch really far but I had to use 1/3 of the can on this baby. It had a lot of sides and nooks and crannies to it and it just seemed an endless job.

*please excuse the cardboard and miscellaneous bits and pieces in the background! A girl has to work where she can and doesn't always have a pretty display place available. Not to mention who wants to haul this stuff around unless they have to. As for the flowers, things just look better when staged with a pretty jug of pink blooms!

But I thought it turned out pretty well, all things considered. I actually distressed after the first coat to see what it would look like but didn't like it on this particular piece. I did 2 coats of wax since it's a desk and it's possible it could see heavy use. I still need to find some new knobs before it's finished. It came fully furnished with eagle knobs. NOT my thing. I'm thinking clear glass/crystal.

Project #3

Old White undercoating, Duck Egg on top, Clear Wax, Dark Wax

This time, NO PRIMER! Just a bit of minor sanding on a couple scratches that were bugging me. I straightaway slapped on a coat of my Old White. Once again, it dried fairly quickly. I was outside this time but it was warm out. By the time I finished with the white, the first pieces were dry and I was able to paint right over it with the Duck Egg blue. I LOVE this aspect of the Chalk Paint since I can be a wee bit impatient.

The next day I added the clear wax. It dried fast again because it was warm and breezy out. I buffed it out and added the dark wax. Problem. I should have done more research before I did this step. Once it's on. It's on. I guess you're supposed to apply the clear wax, then the dark, wiping away any dark you don't want left on. Then letting it dry before buffing it out. I buffed after each wax instead of applying both waxes and only buffing once. Live and learn. I hadn't intended to make it look so heavily antiqued but am liking the look more and more as the paint settles.

Yep, I think I'm loving it.

No primer, straight paint on wood. You can see I once again had the sander working out some scratches.

Duck Egg

I'll add another coat to the legs and I'm thinking about doing the top in Old White, I haven't decided yet.
The whole thing will get distressed though and I'll probably try the dark wax again, more carefully.

Now to the nitty gritty...

The PAINT

1. The Chalk Paint went on great. It covered well and and was creamy and easy to use

2. It had NO odor. I didn't realize how great this was until I went back to the regular latex paint to cover the inside of some drawers. The stink made it apparent how nice it was not to be breathing those fumes while using the Chalk Paint

3. I read this paint doesn't leave brush strokes. It did for me. Especially when painting large surfaces like the dresser sides and top. I normally use a 1 1/2 inch angled brush and with a brush that small, it's really hard to create an even surface when the paint dries so fast. So I used the small brush for the Old White, sanded after it dried on the top and sides then when it came time to add the blue I used a big 4 inch brush. It covered much better and I will probably do that from now on. I might use the bigger brush with regular paint too from now on. I have to say I don;t actually mind the brush strokes anyway, I'm used to them and like the shabby handpainted look they give to furniture.

4. The paint does thicken if you leave the lid off, so if you're painting a lot of pieces try to keep the lid on as much as possible. It's nice that you can just add water if you need to "unthicken" it.

5. Distressing. I ran into an issue here. Annie Sloan says to wax and then distress. I don't recommend this. It is SO MUCH easier to distress BEFORE you add the wax. The paint comes off really easy, in a powder form and is easy to control. If you add the wax and then distress, it makes it harder to get the paint off. It's mostly wax that comes off on your sandpaper and you go through a LOT of it. I went through a sheet and a half on the dresser. Not fun. Another lesson learned. Distress first. Wax second.

The WAX

1. The wax was harder for me to use. I ordered the Annie Sloan Waxes in the clear and the dark. They have brushes they sell and recommend you use with their waxes. I think I agree that you should. Or buy something similar. My Stockist was out so I couldn't get one. I used a rag and I had a lot of waste with the clear wax. A LOT of waste. I used nearly half the can on 3 pieces. I am sure I coated it too heavily since I used the rag and it should have stretched much much farther.

2. I actually didn't notice much difference in the way the Annie Sloan Wax worked and the regular Johnson's Paste Wax I have used previously. I will be sticking with the Johnson's from Home Depot when the Annie Sloan Wax runs out. I can't see putting out the extra $20 plus for something I hardly notice a difference with.

3. The dark wax was trickier. I've never used it before and will have to play with it some more. I need to get a brush of some sort though. I think you have much better control of where the wax goes. This wax went much further and will last me a long long time I think. I barely broke the surface.

4. All the pieces do need to be sealed with wax or the paint will scratch up and rub right off. This does add a bit of extra time and if you don't like waxing, this may not be the paint for you. But then again, who DOES like waxing?

5.. Annie Sloan also recommends you let your wax dry overnight. I know I told you my wax dried right away but it was pretty warm outside and I was able to buff it right away. When I added my second coat to the desk it was colder and took longer but I still didn't wait overnight because my bigger pieces sit under a carport and get covered at night. I was worried the cover might mess up the wax, so I buffed it out.

Overall, I really enjoyed using this paint. It was fun to try something new and it was a breeze to use. I will probably save it for "better" pieces or things I want to heavily distress since it's expensive but it distresses so nicely. I need to make sure I can recoup the expense on my pieces I sell before I order any more. I do have my eye on a gorgeous green however and those brushes I was telling you about are mighty tempting!

I am no paint expert, just a novice, so I have a lot to learn and there are a lot of great painters out there sharing their techniques. One is Miss Mustard Seed. You can find a great wax tutorial here. Another is Shaunna from Perfectly Imperfect. She has 2 great Chalkpaint tutorial videos here. I would definitely recommend trying the Chalk Paint if you can afford the splurge!

Jazz Update and Giveaway Win...

Weekend before last was a good one for me at All That Jazz. I sold the small art deco table, the last of my ceramic picture frames and the two aqua end tables. I was worried they would be hanging around a while but just the right person came in and she snatched them up for her bedroom! I know this because my Mom and I were taking in another load and she was still there. She also snatched an aqua wall shelf out of my arms to go with her new decor. Aqua is still a really popular color for us still.

She bought this chair as well. She nearly cleaned me out of furniture! It's always good news to make a sale, but it sort of shot my whole re-fluffing plans to the moon. I had plans to use those 2 aqua tables in the middle of the booth and do a beach theme. I was slightly disappointed. Mom and I managed to pull off a beachy feel anyway. I'll share pics with you later in the week. Thank goodness we had brought another coffee table in with us or we would have been in dire straights.

I recently won the most fabulous of giveaways and it arrived last weekend. I thought when UPS brought the box it was my chalkpaint I ordered, but I was thrilled when I opened the box and started pulling out treasures.
Vanna from Delusions of Grandeur seriously went all out! Stop by and see her beautiful blog, she has some of the most spectacular collections and exquisite taste.

I had a helper that was just as delighted as I was, although his thrill came from the pink packing peanuts. After we pulled everything out he dove right in and played in that box for 3 days! He wanted to sleep in it. Seriously. He had a box a couple months ago from a new stove that I made a house out of and he slept in it for several days. Children do not need toys to entertain them. Just give them a cardboard box. They love it.

Here's some of what I pulled out of the box. It was like Christmas opening everything.

This is Vanna's picture, I couldn't get a good picture of everything unwrapped and I don't have it displayed yet. There was a gray chippy basket, pretty white pitcher, beautiful linens, 2 crown statues, a rose covered journal, a pretty egg that had some sort of coconut truffles stashed inside. They were gone within 30 minutes. I only ate half. I DID share the other half. Man they were good. Melt in your mouth good. The Man cub asked about them 2 days later and was sad to learn they were gone. NOT that he really expected them to be around still. He knows me better than that. The basket also held a beautiful black flowered tray, a small cloth bag, a book of loveleigh decor and my favorite, a shabby aqua shelf! Yep, I hit the jackpot of giveaways! Thank you so much Vanna, you were extremely generous and I LOVE it all!

You Furniture Painting Queens Broke Me...

I DID it.

I bit the bullet and ordered some CHALK PAINT.

After suffering minor sticker shock, the excitement kicked in.

I can NOT WAIT until it gets here!

It has to be delivered since I don't live near the stockist, hence the shipping and

handling charge was part of the sticker shock.

Nonetheless, it should be here by the weekend.

I don't think I have ever been so excited to see the UPS truck.

So you know what I'll be doing this weekend.

Cracking those cans and gettin' busy!

I found a couple pieces last weekend just screaming for some Annie Sloan Chalkpaint.

The prep work is in progress, I just need to finish fixing that wee little whole on the desk you see in the back, it has one coat of wood filler in this shot. Once it dries I need to prime over it. I have read you don't need to prime or sand before you use this paint but the top of this desk is actually a laminate and I wanted to make sure the paint had something to stick to. I'll let you know how it goes. It could be a disaster. But I'm sure I'll have fun trying!

Thrit Store Finds

I've been hitting the local thrift shops pretty hard lately, hoping to find some furniture. No luck there. Frankly everything else is pretty skimpy too. I can't believe how bare the shelves are. People must be saving there junk for garage sales. I did find a few things.

Like this vintage thermos set for the booth. Inside the bag is also a plastic container which is either to put the thermos in, because it fits perfectly, or to put your lunch in so the thermos doesn't smash it. Maybe someone out there can help me shed some light on the subject. Either way it's a cute little set and I always love that plaid.

For myself I found a copy of the book Heidi, a pretty glass "vase" I plan to use for pens or flowers and these cookie cutters. I almost did a little jig when I saw the crown!

Fun right!

Now for the linens. The top right hand corner is an eyelet bed-skirt for ME. In the center is a set of 4 beautiful linen napkins with beautiful edging, also for ME.~ Probably.~ Finally, at the bottom is a large lace tablecloth, for the booth. Poor Jazz, there I go keeping half the good stuff for me! Actually I rarely do that. Most of what I buy goes to Jazz and the stuff I keep has no or little profit margin so it really doesn't matter.

So, as you can see, it's been slim pickins' around here. We are supposed to get some beautiful weather this weekend and I want to go to some garage sales and see if I have better luck. I need to stock up before Summer rolls around and it's coming around fast! I hope you're all having a super fantabulous week!

A makeover and a BIG purchase for Jazz!

Hi my loveleighs! About two weeks ago I found these end tables at the Goodwill and knew they were perfect for a makeover. I really liked the curves and they were solidly built. They needed a good scrubbing, a bit of sanding a whole lot of painting and WHAMMO...

Here's the AFTER

I had some serious painting difficulties with these. A weird glaze color and a lack of patience on my part created a bit more work for myself than intended but I like the end result. I realize the picture is not that great and the lighting wasn't the best, blame it on this dreary NW weather.

I started with a pale blue paint (I skipped the primer this go round) then added a glaze to give it an antique look but the glaze dried too red for my taste. Now I was in a quandry. Do I repaint the whole thing over in the light blue or try something else.

The something else won. I dry brushed a brighter turquoise over the top, letting a little bit of the glaze peek through in the corners and edges. Then the whole she-bang got a coat of wax.

I know this painting technique isn't for everyone, as is the color. I think it may be a love it or leave it kind of thing. I hope I'm not hauling them home in a few months to repaint! I hope SOMEONE out there loves them enough to smack down some cash! I think they have a fun beachy/summery vibe. They have yet to make it to the shop as I am waiting for someone to pick up a layaway purchase so I have the room for them.

This vintage art deco table went in last week. It's a cute little piece. I know it's hard to tell but the color is a light aqua. Darn rotten lighting again.

And here is my BIG buy of the weekend. This dreamy, chippy old shelf. I went on the prowl at some local events and I knew I had a pretty good shot at finding a big display piece that would work with my budget. If you remember a few weeks ago I was bemoaning the fact that we were selling furniture left and right and I was wishing we had just ONE piece we didn't have to worry about losing, as we have a lot of smalls that need to be transferred each time a big piece sells. It's a bit of a hassle.

So, on the hunt I went and just as I had hoped, I found this piece at the exact place I was hoping to find something. It was a bit of a challenge because the place was packed and stuff was flying out of there left and right. I told the gal I wanted it so she would put a sold sticker on it before I had QUITE made up my mind. It was the most expensive thing I've bought for Jazz. It took me 20 minutes to make up my mind and go for it. I loved it and was pretty sure it was an excellent price.

It got moved into the Jazz booth on Saturday and we already had 2 people interested while we were setting it up. Call me crazy but I am not ready to let it go yet. Unless someone is willing to offer me a very very steep price!

So for now she sits, looking pretty and making our stuff look great, marked NFS. She can stick around for a bit and observe all our customers, the comings and goings!

So All That Jazz has been recently "fluffed" and I await the next "go round"!

Chair Makeover and A Little Jazz

My Aunt and I hit a couple garage sales last weekend and this chair was one of the goodies we came home with. It definitely needed a makeover and I got right to work.

This was the end result. It's already in the booth. Remember a few weeks ago when I was bemoaning the lack of furniture sales? Be careful what you wish for. Not only did the bookcase we had been borrowing from our shop owners sell, but a dresser sold last weekend and another dresser/nightstand set is on layaway and meant to be picked up at any moment. We had to do some serious rearranging and furniture shopping. We're still short on furniture backups so hopefully now that it's nicer garage sales will pick up and I can get cracking!

All That Jazz after it's been reworked. For the third time in 2 weeks.

As much as I'm loving all these sales I'm needing a bit of a break!

We are rich in mirrors. Every time I see one, I snatch it up.

I've bought 6 in the last 2 weeks.

Treasure Hunt....

I spent last Saturday on an early morning treasure hunt. Our local community has a garage sale event at the fairgrounds twice a year. Over 400 garage sale booths in one location. My Sister, Aunt and I got there at 8:00 sharp, right before it opened. The line was long but moved really quickly once it opened.

It was a mix of good junk and bad junk. Just like most other garage sale experiences. I did find a few things like this cool vintage fan above.

I also spotted this cool barnwood mirror tucked away in a corner. I was eyeing it and the seller came down on the price. I was shocked because it was early in the sale. So I snatched it up. My only complaint was having to haul it back to the truck. It was heavy, thank goodness for my big sis!

I also bought this fantastic chippy bench. Got a good deal on it too! I almost didn't want to part with it but I did.

This iron table was the last thing I bought before I called it good. The merchandise I got required 3 trips back to the truck and frankly I was too exhausted to pack any more. I did get a few more things I'll share later. These are just the things that made their way to Jazz already.

While leaving the parking lot I got a call from our shop owner telling me I had sold the big dining room table, a chair and a coffee table. YIKES. I have been whining about not selling any furniture for months and then it all sells in a matter of days. And I have nothing on standby. Serves me right. I had to borrow a small bookcase for display purposes only to help fill the void. Michelle and I managed to pull everything together on Sunday. It only took 4 hours! By the way, these photos are from our booth after we finished adding new merchandise last weekend. They were NOT from the garage sales I purchased them at. Trust me when I tell you it was NOT that fancy! That's okay, it was fun anyway. Even with the cold. And the rain. And the endless trips back and forth. I'd go again tomorrow!

Update...remember I just told you I was having lack of furniture issues. I got another call today. The bookcase we have been borrowing from our shop owner since last May has sold. Now I have to find somewhere to put all this...

Lord have mercy.

When it rains it pours! I guess it's a good kind of problem to have. We have the option to borrow another bookcase and I did just buy a table so hopefully we can make it work. But MAN I need some deals on some furniture! Time to hit some more garage and estate sales PRONTO!

Happy Anniversary All That Jazz!

Today was the one year anniversary of All That Jazz. We opened our booth for business this time last year. We started off in the same shop we are in now, The Painted Lady Vintage. We were tucked upstairs in a corner half the size of what we have now. It was half the price too!

It took us 5 hours to unpack all our boxes and set up for business. We had A LOT of smalls. We were worried we wouldn't have enough product to fill the shelves but we managed to stuff it to the gills!

I told you we had a lot of smalls! Most of these things have all sold by now. I can spot about 10 things that seem to be hanging around still. It's fun to look back and see what has sold. That's why I take tons of pictures. It's a great way for me to see what's sold. I'm a visual person so it's easier to tell from a picture what merchandise has gone out the door and our tags aren't always descriptive enough to tell us what an item is months down the road.

When we started we had several "display only" pieces too. Like the mannequin and the door and turquoise picture frame above. That has changed. Now if it's in the booth, it's pretty much for sale or don't put it in.
We were only in this space a month when a spot opened up downstairs and it was offered to us. We hesitated slightly because we didn't have any large display pieces but the shop owner offered to let us use some from the shop and we were off and running.

Downstairs! Things came downstairs much faster than they went up, let me tell you! All the furniture is borrowed except for the rocking chair and the bench. We started setting up at 10:00 and had to hurry because Girl's Night Out Started at 4:00. We made it with half an hour to spare.

Boring Week...

I've spent the last week relatively bored. Nothing new is happening and I could not for the life of me come up with anything interesting to post on. I haven't been blogging at all. Lots of web surfing has been taking place. I've lost 10 pounds from the exertion, LOL! I can't even use the excuse that I've been working on Jazz projects because there has been nothing new in that front either. I think the time change has me in a minor funk and the fact that it's been raining here pretty much non stop the last couple weeks. I am so tired of gray skies, but compared to the poor Japanese people, I'll take my doldrums any day. God Bless them.

Since I couldn't work myself up to post anything new, I pulled into the deep recesses of my computer files and decided to share these pictures of my youngest niece again. I am so longing for a Summer day such as this.

She's two years older now and still has those big blue eyes and blonde hair.

And she still wants to pick the flowers. Last time she came to visit she wanted to and I had to tell her we didn't have any! Nothing but brown sticks and slimy leaves. Some serious weeding needs to be done within the next month. If it would ever stop RAINING.

What's The Booth Looking Like These Days...

ALL THAT JAZZ

Jazz goes through a bit of a transformation every few weeks because I can't help moving stuff around. After a while I start getting the urge to shuffle. I guess it's a good thing, last time I shuffled our shop owner told me we consistently have the highest sales of all the booths BECAUSE of that very reason. It appears my shuffling obsession has it's up side! Buyers enjoy a space that is refreshed and it may help them to see something they may have missed on a previous visit.

My only complaint is furniture. Most of the furniture I have at Jazz has been there since last November. I'm ready for these pieces to move. I've marked them down a couple times and no luck. I don't think I'm overpriced, I tend to mark things on the cheaper side. So for now I will play the waiting game. Hopefully things will pick up furniture wise after everyone has paid their taxes in April! As it stands now, we are selling a lot of smalls. And we have a lot of smalls, so that's a good thing! I shouldn't be complaining too loudly since I only have one table waiting in the wings to replace anything that sells, but MAN I'm getting tired of these same old display pieces! I want a new look!

This is my new motto!

This is one of those pieces of furniture I was talking about. It started off at $125. I may have been overly optimistic. After two price reductions it currently stands at $85.

The other dresser that is becoming a nuisance. It has a small nightstand to match and is currently priced at $145 for the pair. It's a little pricier because they have $60 worth of new glass hardware on them. Possibly a mistake on my part, but they had no knobs and I loved the glass ones.

This dresser was my childhood dresser. It came as a 2 dresser/nightstand set that my sister and I shared. She took hers off to college, along with the nightstand and mine got passed to my younger sister. They both went into storage for about 10 years until they came out last Summer and got a makeover. My sister's has always been painted white and mine had an ugly coat of rose added to it at one time. I ended up keeping one dresser to store Jazz bits and pieces in, the one that needed the most TLC.

This dresser actually has a bigger history. It was purchased in the 1960's by my Grandma for my Aunt. She bought it from a Catholic Church in Vancouver, Canada. On their off time, parishioners would make furniture to raise money for the church. The dresser set was then but on a boat and shipped to Prince Rupert Island, Canada where they lived for a few years. When they moved back, it came with them and was at my Grandparents home until they gave it to my sister and I to use. I suppose I should be more sentimental but I'm ready to let it go. If someone will have it!

Michelle has some new things to bring in. I have a few linens I need to iron up and take in too. We'll see if things look similar after we've added in the new merchandise or we go crazy and the whole thing looks different again!

I'm always drawn to them when I'm out shopping or see pretty ones online.

Mirrors are always something that sell well in our booth.

The last one I bought and made over sold within a few days.

So I guess I'm not the only one with a mirror addiction.

None of them have been quite as fancy as most of THESE!

And I don't have any this fancy either but I so enjoy looking at mirror candy online!

Wouldn't you love to surround yourself with it. I seem to find myself going on and on about wanting Spring to hurry this year. As I write this, it will officially be here in 16 days. Daylight savings time will roll around in just 9 short days, hallelujah!

A sign you are getting old...You finally understand why people retire south to warmer weather. I never understood it before. For some reason it finally clicked this year. Must be a lack of vitamin D.

White Wednesday

Today I'm joining Kathleen at Faded Charm for her weekly White Wednesday event. It's my first White Wednesday and I'm thrilled to be joining in!

I've been wracking my brain for things to make for our booth. Things that don't require a sewing machine, or heavy duty power tools. So I tried my hand at reinventing these little canvas totes I found at Michaels. I printed some images from The Graphics Fairy and ironed them onto the totes.

Now this is my first go round with iron ons. I ruined the first two when I realized I forgot to reverse the image. NOT a smooth move considering how expensive these things are. The actual iron on process was a bit tricky too. How much pressure to apply, how long to apply it, when exactly to peel the paper back. It was some serious iron on drama around here.

I finally got it together enough to come up with 3 reasonably decent looking tote bags. I added some trim to the top and tied a bit of scrap lace to each handle. It was a fun project once I got going. I plan to make some more but want to see if these sell first.

If not I may just have to make some for myself. One for each day of the week!
